Discover a nature sanctuary filled with the sounds of howler monkeys, buzzing bee hives and the waves crashing down in the distance. Conchal Mixed National Wildlife Refuge is located in the district of Cabo Velas, established on September 18, 2009. This sanctuary boasts a total area of 39.75 hectares. Within this expanse, 28.29 hectares consist of dry forest transitioning to wet forest, while 11.46 hectares of mangrove form part of the Natural Heritage of the State. Majestic Guanacaste and Ceibo trees stand tall, while playful Howler Monkeys swing overhead. The melodic tunes of Trogons and Woodpeckers fill the air, harmonizing with the rustle of leaves. The sanctuary showcases the interconnected beauty of nature, a testament to the rich biodiversity thriving within its boundaries. Also at the refuge we have a seedbed, where we cultivate an impressive 1.500 native species annually, not only for the resort's use but also for generous donations that support environmental conservation. Complementing this commitment, our sanctuary is buzzing with vitality, hosting an array of four stingless bee species. Beyond their role in preserving biodiversity, these bees are indispensable pollinators, ensuring the health of ecosystems and enhancing agricultural productivity.
Reserva Conchal
It owes its name to the fact that its composition is 98% shells and pulverized rock strata, making it very striking among the Guanacaste and national beaches. The site has tourist infrastructure among which are the Westin Playa Conchal hotel, the Reserva Conchal hotel and the W Reserva Conchal hotel.
